ハリウッド映画で見られる「警察官はドーナツが好き」という俗説は、実はダンキンドーナツの戦略による。ダンキンドーナツでは「警察官が制服とパトカーで来店すれば、ドーナツとコーヒーを無料にする」と宣言しているためである。アメリカではコンビニなどの深夜営業の店は、銃による現金強盗が多いことから、警官が立ち寄ることは強盗除けの効果があり、これにより「他の客が安心して深夜でも店に寄ることが出来る」という効果を得ている。
